The chaos of jazz,
brings life into perspective
Pieces of paper blow
in the September breeze
Lengthy bits of memory linger
in the thickness of the night
And we wonder where time went
for time is a terrible thing

Weighted worries,
Aged bodies,
Blurred lines of destiny,
Wisdom to the years

The solemn solo of the saxophone
fades gently into the night
to stain the lips
and curse the tongues
that kiss the pale notes of yesterday’s song

The light snare at the end of that jazzy note,
the deep tone of the bass guitar,
the psychedelic effect of the piano keys
blunt the pain,
the sorrow of a tomorrow’s song
beautifully played,
to infinity
