Khayalethu Mguzulo, is a poet known for his reality pieces that affect African youth. He is @WordNSound Poet of the Year, 2019. Khayalethu Ruddy Mguzulo, (29) is the last of four children. Raised in Soweto Orlando East, Mzugulo moved to Sebokeng Golden Gardens at 23. Mzugulo dropped out of school in Grade 10 and instead went to college to study ICT. He ended up studying Fashion Designing. While working at his family shop, his love for poetry grew. It was this inspiration; and a challenge from one of his friends to write his own poems, that got him interested in poetry slams.

Mzugulo came second place in the Tewop 6 Poetry Slam then first in Recite Your Own Poetry. He also won Soweto 2k Challenge, the African Print Authors & Poetry Awards (Best Male Poet) and Poet of the Year at Word N Sound in 2019.

Mzugulo calls himself “a mouth for those who cannot speak for themselves”, he considers himself to “still be in the journey of telling issues that are kept secret between him, poetry and the society.”
